Fresh Menswear Editorial

Last fall I connected with Vaughn Stewart, editor in chief of Cool America Magazine. We had a couple of great phone conversations and decided to shoot an editorial together for the winter edition of his magazine. He mentioned the possibility of using Forest Hills Gardens as a location. I took a drive out and we toured around the neighborhood. I fell in love with the area and saw endless possibilities of incredible images. Vaughn hit up a half dozen of the top New York model agencies and we both agreed that Braxton Claudill from One Management New York was perfect for the story. Vaughn tapped Brian Robinson, BDR Styling to create out looks.

Shoot day was a breeze. Although we photographed a couple of looks inside an apartment and on a beautiful balcony, Vaughn felt it was not consistent with the editorial feel of the story. Even though I loved the images, I had to agree. We piled into my car, parked by the local train station, shot two looks on the platform, a third look on the sidewalk, pulled around the corner and shot three looks on a side street. Might be the easiest editorial I shot, and I am in love with the results.

To see the entire shoot you can purchase the winter issue of Cool America or visit my website www.erichason.com

Location Fashion Photoshoot At My Home In Brooklyn

Creative directory Alex Palomo and I created a stunning editorial for Genlux Magazine. It was our first collaboration. We spent a couple of months planning our next shoot based on his concept Cockatoo Inn. We planned a sexy, film noir, motel feel, inspired by tight sets and limited props to be shot in my New York studio. We put together a moodboard and started recruiting a team: fashion stylist Bex Vanderway, hair stylist Damian Monzillo, and makeup artist J.Patrick. It was our first time working with Bex. I had collaborated with Damian on a killer beauty editorial for Oob Magazine and was looking forward to working together again. J.Patrick had worked with Alex before but it was my first time shooting with him. We contacted Chad Thompson of Communa-K and he agreed to help with casting models for the project. He gave us some amazing options and we selected Monica Ollander of Ford Models New York and Melissa Cuc with Supreme Model Management.

After nailing down the moodboard I purchased some curtains, scavenged some rugs and was preparing to drag some of my Danish Modern furniture into the studio. My wife was not happy about transporting her curated furniture into my studio. Since everybody on the team was fully vaccinated against Covid we decided to shoot the concept in my Park Slope Brownstone. I was really excited by the prospect and after showing Alex what my home offered, he was pretty stoked as well. We spent a Saturday prepping models, moving furniture, shlepping lighting equipment around my home. We had a great time and were very excited with the images we created!

I have included photos in this post but check out my website and Instagram to see more!

Fashion photography in NYC is opening up!

I am pleased to report that my New York fashion clients are starting to shoot again.  My first shoot since lockdown was June 30 at my fur client’s warehouse.  It felt a bit weird returning to set but we all wore masks (except the model of course), did our best to social distance, the space was large and airy with good ventilation and fans to circulate the air.

So far all my work has been at client sites and location.  I have not worked in my studio yet but look forward to returning!

Here are a couple of portraits of my models from yesterday.  I am not able to post the client’s photos but shot these for social media purposes: Alexis Morgan, APM New York;  Amanda Mondale, W/360 NYC

New York Fashion Week Model Agency Show Package

This season I had the pleasure and honor of photographing the NYFW show package for SKorpion Management.

The shoot took place over 4 days at my NYC studio.  Agency director Shameer Khan was on hand helping with fashion styling and creative direction.

Makeup artist Christina Lancaster and hair stylist Phrenchie were on point with the beauty.

The models were photographed against the same grey painted canvas backdrop.  We shot one close up headshot/beauty look and a second full body look.  For the guys we asked them to bring in a prop that  best expressed and interest, their personality or their background.  They brought sporting gear like a basketball, football, skateboard, lacrosse stick, boxing gloves but also books, musical instruments, and an African mask.  With the girls we did not use props.  Just showing off their beauty.

We had a great time shooting 30 plus models. The images we created were really well received by casting directors helping book the men and women in many top shows.

I am posting some images here but you can see all the photos on my website:

Kenz B, One Management, New York Fashion Beauty Photos

Love seeing my work on a model’s portfolio page on an agency website.  Especially if it is an agency as impressive of One Management! Model Kenz Brownn stopped by the studio for a few hours and we got creative. The team consisted of makeup artist Dani Schacter, hair stylist Tomoko Kuwamura, and fashion stylist Brit Cato.

Kenz is stunning and lovely to work with. I am really pleased to have created these images with her and the team!

Family Portrait Photography

Saturday I had the opportunity to photograph a wonderful family from Long Island celebrating the parents/grandparent’s 50th wedding anniversary. This is a departure from my normal commercial fashion and beauty work, but was refreshing and welcome!  I love photographing people! We met at my studio.  I was set up and ready to go.  We had 6 adults and 4 kids individually and in various combinations.  There was so much love and everyone was so comfortable. The kids were amazing. All I had to say is “get closer” or “pile on dad” and magic happened! I used both strobes and natural light to vary the feel of the images. My favorite moment was when the kids started to get really animated, running up the curved cyclorama wall and photo bombing.

I got lots of wonderful compliments.  The ultimate was in and email received the next day wanting to make the day an annual event!

Below is the last frame of the day with me jumping in!

Behind the Scenes Video – Fashion Lifestyle Photoshoot

My friend Kenny Chan of Full Motion NYC shared a behind the scenes video he shot from my lifestyle fashion photo shoot for shoe client J/Slides Footwear.  We had a great shoot, meeting in Central Park 6:30 am on a beautiful June weekday morning.  I was surprised how busy the park was at that time; runners, dogs, cyclists, trucks making deliveries. In retrospect I am not sure why I thought Central Park would be quiet.

Our models were Kianna Stupakoff and Lily Jean, both from Next Models, New York. Although they never met each other, they became best friends, at least for that morning.

Photography for NYC Knitwear Designer Label and Thread

I love working for New York knitwear designer Label and Thread!  They create beautiful sweaters, scarves and hats, are really great with styling the looks, book great models, and are really fun to work with.  We always use Andrea Wilson of Next Artists for hair and makeup. Andrea is extremely talented and a blast to work with. Her energy keeps the set jumping and her attention to detail makes sure each look is flawless. This season the client booked Dutch model Romy de Grijff from Wilhelmina NY. Romy is a stunning woman and a pleasure to work with.  She made my job extremely easy.

The day started off similar to most.  I arrived at the studio early to start setting up.  I like to be ready to shoot when the client arrives.  This way I am free to spend time helping the client with what they need to prepare for a day of shooting.  During the week another photographer had a job photographing food. My studio manager surprised us with a crate of assorted bags of tortilla chips. There were about 30 bags! Jokingly I asked him what about the guacamole? He came in with a bag of ripe avocados, onion, tomato and limes.  I spent the next 10 minutes making some killer guacamole for the crew and studio staff.  That was a first!

Unfortunately there was no tequila left over. Never too early for shots!

We had a really productive day of shooting.  Below are some of the looks from the F/W18 collection.  I am looking forward to seeing the images live on their website! If you would like to see some of our work from the current season take a look at www.labelandthread.com.

Romy and Andrea love my guacamole!

Fashion/Beauty with Wilhelmina Model Ana Marques

Early January I had the pleasure of working with model Ana Marques from Wilhelmina New York. The beauty team was hair stylist Monae Everrett and makeup artist Heidi Paul.  Love it when the agency uses my work for the opening picture of the model’s portfolio!  Ana was a pleasure to photograph.  I hope I have the opportunity to shoot with her in the near future!

Denim and Outerwear Catalog Photography

Last week I had the pleasure of shooting for my client Vigoss, a denim and outerwear designer. The client cast great models from Next Model Management, New York and State Management, NYC. We took advantage of some great afternoon natural daylight to shoot looks for their website and catalog.  Makeup artist Veronika Robova gave us great natural hair and makeup which worked perfectly for the concept. This is the first season for their Men’s collection. The jeans, shirts and outerwear look great, so there is no surprise that they are getting great response from the buyers. I look forward to rocking some of the denim myself!

Here are some photos from the day.
