In younger days I was quite passionate training in wrestling and karate. Part of the regime was running. I loved to ski as well. Almost 20 years ago I felt some stiffness in my hip. Thinking it was stubborn tendonitis I went to a doctor to have it checked out. Unfortunately the diagnosis was early onset of arthritis, which I have been living with since. I traded in the dojo for a swimming pool and the running shoes for a bicycle. For the past 3 years pilates has kept me in good shape. After a visit to my doctor in June, we decided it was time for a change, and scheduled replacement surgery for December 11, 2014. My work schedule slows down around the holidays. I let my clients know I would be out for 5 weeks and tried to schedule shoots the best I could. I lost a couple of jobs, but not too bad. I was dreading surgery up until I was sitting in the operating room, hooked up to an IV, and the anesthesia knocked me out. When I woke up in recovery I was very happy I had it done and looked forward to recuperating and a better quality of life.
It has been 5-1/2 weeks since surgery. I have been doing physical therapy every day trying my best to get back to work. Yesterday was my first shoot. I was nervous that I would start feeling sore and the joint would fatigue. I felt great! It was nice to get back into the studio. The job was demanding and I felt no pain or tightness. I am looking forward to full recovery and of course more work!
If you need a new hip, Dr. Roy Davidovitch is your man (NYU Hospital for Joint Disease). If you want to see an animated video of the procedure, check out this link. Pretty crazy.
Here is some behind the scenes from yesterday’s shoot for Alice and Trixie. Robin Buss of Muse NYC was our gorgeous model. The last photo of me on the ladder was taken by my assistant at the end of the day!
Looking forward to the publication of a fashion/beauty editorial I photographed for The View Magazine! Shot in my NYC studio with model Elena Kantaria of Women Model Management, styled by UMA , makeup by Chris Arai, hair by Mako Iijima and manicurist Arielle Vilmont.
For years I have wanted to work with Irina Kondrateva of Q Models. Go figure this is the second time shooting her in 3 weeks. She is as sweet as she is beautiful. We photographed a lingerie catalog today with a wonderful, talented team – Alexandra Fongaro hair and Lilly Jean makeup that made the day a breeze.
Here are a couple of behind the scenes photos and some images of the looks that we shot. Please note these images are not retouched and are straight out of the camera… just cropped and resized.
Once photography stops being fun I am going to quit.
Yesterday I had the pleasure shooting with Lindsay Phenix from Red Model Management NYC and Olga Kubrak from Major Models New York. It was a long day with lots of looks but we keep it light and have some fun in the studio on and off set. At one point Olga accused me of being a very serious photographer; my makeup artist Veronika Robova rolled her eyes. We are professionals, we take our work very seriously, but lets face it, this fashion photography and the object is to have fun making beautiful photos that sell clothing and a lifestyle.
One shoe on, one shoe off… Veronika confuses Olga!
Houston native Lindsay Phenix is inspired by the UT orange and flashes the “hook ’em horns” sign. Unfortunately the Longhorns are 3 and 5 this season. The bbq still kicks ass!
Want to share a new fashion editorial published in the latest issue of Bambi Magazine.
Please note the magazine and the fashion editorial are both NSFW. They both feature nudity. Below are some of the photos from the editorial and you can view the entire story by clicking HERE and scrolling through.
I love the quality of work they publish and very proud to have my photography included.
The story was shot in my New York studio featuring Alyona Shishmareva from Q Model Management NYC. My collaborators are stylist Ikponmwosa Edorisiagbon, makeup artist Wendi Miyaki and hair stylist Elin Nyberg.
I recently shot a lookbook for Brasilian born, New York based fashion designer Thais Lima. The concept was loose and edgy, just shoot the model against the wall of my Manhattan studio a few props like a ladder, box, stool, etc. The model was the lovely Karolina Nevia from Q Model Management, NYC. Karolina was actually a last minute replacement for another model who arrived with the flu. Everything happens for a reason… Karolina was amazing. She understood the concept and the clothing and was perfect face for the collection. Tiffany Oliver (hair and makeup) from Wilhelmina Artist Management had the easy task of making the beautiful Karolina look beautiful.
Below are some photos from the shoot, behind the scenes pic as well.
I am excited about the redesign of my website. The big change is adding a Men’s Fashion section. I enjoy photographing guys fashion. Definitely a different vibe on set. Less time doing hair and makeup (usually) and more talk about last week’s game! Check out the website and new section, let me know what you think!

I was hired to shoot for a new e-commerce retail start-up. A long, busy day shooting a lot of looks which was kept light and fun by an outstanding crew; of course beautiful models and great clothing help lift the spirits as well!
Although the pace of the shoot was quite fast I always make sure the photos are beautiful and that we capture moments that reflect the spirit of the day!
Thanks to Major Models for sending us two beauties: Nejilka Arias and Veronica Montano (winner of Top Latina Model!). The lovely Veronika Robova did hair and makeup. Special props for stylist Luna Andrews who kept the shoot moving!
Some photos from yesterday… out of camera, not retouched.

I love shooting for Member’s Only, the iconic outerwear brand from my youth. I remember the cool kids rocking their nylon jackets while I was still wearing the Mighty Mac which would be handed down to my brother when I outgrew it.
The current incarnation is quickly becoming an important lifestyle brand successfully merging retro cool and current hip.
A couple of photos from the day…
Models Carly and Matt (Major Model Management) make my job so easy. Along with the classic jackets I get the iconic NYC water tanks.
