More photographs from Flashes of Hope shoot

It is a privilege and an honor to work with the families serviced by Flashes of Hope.  As the New York Chapter Director I coordinate bringing professional photographers into pediatric cancer treatment centers to photograph the patients and their families.  We also provide hair and makeup as well.

I am always blown away by the kids and their families.  They are incredibly strong through trying times I hope none of us ever know.  Although there are so many emotions very close to the surface, love is what always comes out.  The amount of thanks and gratitude that we volunteers receive for something we do every day is such a reward.

The grace that the families share centers me until the next Flashes of Hope photo shoot!

Below are photos taken by volunteer photographer Greg Morris of me goofing around with a younger brother of one of the patients.

Noguchi at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden

Saturday I spent the afternoon strolling though the Brooklyn Botanic Garden to view the Isamu Noguchi exhibit which is on view through December 13.

I live near the Garden and visit a few times a year, usually in the spring for cherry blossoms or summer when the flora is in full bloom.  I was surprised to see how beautiful the landscape is during the late fall.  There were still roses and other flowers blooming, gourds hanging from trellises, fall foliage, etc.  It made a perfect backdrop for Noguchi’s work!

Upon entering we picked up a secondary map showing where the various sculptures were displayed.  The map was not exactly precise so it made finding some of the work a fun game.  I felt like I was embarking on a treasure hunt where each station provided a new visual reward!  The work, the setting, on an overcast, grey day was very inspiring!

The Garden was quite crowded due to a children’s Halloween festival.  It was sweet to see all the young kids running around in costume.  My reward was a pint of Six Point Oktoberfest which definitely hit the spot!

Half day shoot

Today I had a half day job shooting an aspiring model.

My Manhattan studio is on West 20th St.  My sister lives around the corner. This weekend my sister and her husband are out of town.  My mom and step-father are watching my niece and nephew. Since it is a weekend and my shoot ended at noon, I decided to invite my mom to bring the kids in for an impromptu  shoot and surprise my sister and brother-in-law with some fun photos of the kids.

My niece is a spitting image of my sister and my nephew is the total ham.  Their parents are going to die when the see the photos!  My only regret is that I forgot to shoot my mom with her grandkids!  I guess that means another family session!
