Noguchi at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden

Saturday I spent the afternoon strolling though the Brooklyn Botanic Garden to view the Isamu Noguchi exhibit which is on view through December 13.

I live near the Garden and visit a few times a year, usually in the spring for cherry blossoms or summer when the flora is in full bloom.  I was surprised to see how beautiful the landscape is during the late fall.  There were still roses and other flowers blooming, gourds hanging from trellises, fall foliage, etc.  It made a perfect backdrop for Noguchi’s work!

Upon entering we picked up a secondary map showing where the various sculptures were displayed.  The map was not exactly precise so it made finding some of the work a fun game.  I felt like I was embarking on a treasure hunt where each station provided a new visual reward!  The work, the setting, on an overcast, grey day was very inspiring!

The Garden was quite crowded due to a children’s Halloween festival.  It was sweet to see all the young kids running around in costume.  My reward was a pint of Six Point Oktoberfest which definitely hit the spot!
